Stairlift Installers

There are several things to take into consideration when purchasing a stairlift, one of them being whether you will install it yourself or whether you will be better off using stairlift installers.  Stairlifts are often found in the homes of those who have a mobility impairment, such as the elderly or disabled.  Stairlifts allow these people to once again use their stairs, conserving not just their energy but also their stress levels, as many people become afraid of the stairs due to the fear of falling.  It is generally best to use stairlift installers if you are thinking of having a stairlift, although it is possible to do it yourself.  Some things to take into consideration are:

  • Safety regulations, including additional safety regulations that are used in care homes for example
  • The features of your stair lift
  • Whether you are able to install the stair lift yourself
  • Whether using stairlift installers is the best option

Initial Things to Take into Consideration

The first thing you should think about is what type of stair lift you require.  The two main types are:

  • Curved stair lifts that can travel around bends and curves, such as in spiral stair cases
  • Straight stair lifts which are fitted to a single straight rail.
Generally, it is best to use stairlift installers when you purchase a curved stairlift, as installation is quite complicated for these models.  However, with straight stairlifts, you may be able to perform the installation yourself.

Buying a Second Hand Stairlift

Stairlifts come at a considerable expense and it may be worth looking at second hand stairlifts instead.  It is possible to purchase second hand stairlifts privately and then hire stairlift installers to deal with the installation, or you could purchase a second hand model from a registered company, who will also employ stairlift installers.  The benefits of going through a registered company are that you will be able to view the history of the stairlift including how often and how well it has been serviced and maintained.

Stairlift Installers or Do It Yourself?

It is possible to install stairlifts yourself, particularly in the case of straight stairlifts.  The benefits of this are of course mainly surrounding the price, in as such that you do not have to pay for stairlift installers.  However, it is important to be confident in DIY if you are opting to do this.  Some of the main benefits of using stairlift installers are to do with safety and quality.  If your stair lift is installed by accredited stairlift installers, you will receive a warranty meaning that you are insured should something go wrong.  It is also much less likely that any mistakes will happen.

As you can see, there are pros and cons to using stairlift installers and deciding on what the best option is for you will depend mainly on your budget.  However, it is very difficult to put a price on safety and quality and it is always advisable to use stairlift installers rather than doing it yourself if at all possible.
